Diederich Kortlang Works

Diederich Kortlang (1925-1974) was born in Cologne, Germany on August 19, 1925.  As a child his only longing was to attend Art School.  From 1946 to 1953 he attended the Koelner Werkschulen, Akademie Fuer Freie und Angewandte Kunst, from which he graduated.



Kortlang above all reveals versatility in many mediums including oils, drawings prints, tapestries, and murals.



He married Federica Sanchez in 1954 and moved to Havana, Cuba, where he did some work for the Trust Company of Cuba.  In 1960 due to the rising of The Cuban Revolution he moved from Havana, Cuba with his young family to San Miguel De Allende, Guanajuato, Mexico.  Here he conducted classes and was the Head of the Fine Arts Graphic Department at the Instituto Allende.   As a Cooperative venture he and fellow artists formed a Gallery in San Miguel De Allende, known as Galería San Miguel. This Gallery still exists today.



In 1972 he moved to Kenosha Wisconsin, where he conducted classes, and was the Head of the Fine Arts Graphic Department. During these years he had his personal studios where he was able to paint, stitch his tapestries, as well as dedicate time to his drawings and plans of future murals.  Between 1973 and January of 1974 he designed and mounted two Murals in Hannover, Germany at the Kabelmetal, A.G. 



Diederich Kortlang's work is part of both private and public collections.  His drawings, paintings, graphics, tapestries and murals can be found throughout the United States, Germany, Cuba, Mexico, Brazil, Canada, and Switzerland.
